  • Youthful VASJ golfers have the drive for success

    Villa Angela-St. Joseph coach John Iosue '77 is convinced that if golf tournaments were won with hard work, passion and desire to improve, the Vikings would be undefeated state champions this fall. As it is, tournaments and matches are still won with making shots and making putts, and VASJ is a somewhat inexperienced team that is continuing to work to put the ball in the hole on a consistent basis.

    Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School golf Coach John Iosue '77 isn’t a fortune teller, but he firmly believes there could be a long trip down south for the Vikings later this fall. “I think this team has the skill and we are developing the depth that if things go right and we perform like I know the guys are capable, I really think they have what it to takes to make it to the state tournament in Columbus,” Iosue said.

  • VASJ golfers close out season at tough sectional tournament

    The season came to a close for the VASJ golf team when the Vikings competed in the Division III sectional tournament at Pin Hills Golf Club on Sept. 25. Jeff Grudzinski, a talented multi-sport athlete who led VASJ in average scoring all season, finished with an 85.

    Standout junior Jeff Grudzinski shot a 77 to lead VASJ at the North Coast League Tournament on Sept. 18 at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley. The Vikings were scheduled to host NCL foe Trinity on Sept.

  • VASJ golfers come up a few strokes short in loss to Lake Catholic

    The VASJ golf team lost a tough one to Lake Catholic in its lone match last week at Briardale in Euclid. The Vikings got a match-best 37 from Jeff Grudzinski, but the Cougars pulled out a win, 170-175. Adam Keyse carded a 44 for VASJ.

  • Grudzkinski, Keyes lead early on the links for VASJ golf

    VASJ had a bit of a roller coaster week, starting with a major high by beating Benedictine in a playoff Tuesday at Briardale before losing a match to Padua on Thursday and having a difficult afternoon on a tough Hawthorne Valley course Sunday in the Gilmour Invitational. Jeff Grudzinski shot 40 in the win over Benedictine and Adam Keyse carded a 42 on the front nine for the Vikings (3-2).
